Upgrading TriDef Software

Sharp customers are welcome to receive updates of their TriDef software.

TriDef Movie Player, TriDef Photo Viewer and TriDef POPvert Player (all originally included with all Sharp RD3D and AL3D notebooks) have been retired - please refer to our retirement information page. The functions formerly provided by these three products are now part of TriDef Media Player. Simply download and install the latest version from TriDef Media Player download page and use it to view your existing .TriDefMovie, .TriDefPhoto and .TriDefPOPvert files.

TriDef Media Player also plays other file formats - however you need to purchase the full version and complete the Activation process to play all supported file formats specified on the TriDef Media Player Overview page.

If you decide not to purchase TriDef Media Player, you will still be able to view .TriDefMovie, .TriDefPhoto and .TriDefPOPvert files in full screen 3D, however all other supported file types will play in 2-D/3-D split-screen evaluation mode.

Please note:

  • The Sharp notebooks came with sample .TriDefMovie files installed. These are quite large and cannot be downloaded from our web-site. Please backup these files before uninstalling your TriDef software

Sharp RD3D and TriDef Visualizer for Google Earth

Due to a known limitation with the nVIDIA Driver provided by default on the Sharp RD3D, TriDef Visualizer for Google Earth will not run by default.

Updating the graphics drivers will fix this problem. Unfortunately, neither Sharp nor NVIDIA provide these updated drivers specifically for the RD3D.

There is a way, however, to use the latest generic NVIDIA driver on the RD3D. This technique is not officially supported by Sharp or NVIDIA, however our testing has shown that the technique does work.

To install the latest NVIDIA drivers on an RD3D, perform the following steps. Please Note: As these steps will change your system configuration, it is highly recommended you backup your system before proceeding.

  1. Visit the LaptopVideo2Go web-site
  2. Please follow the detailed installation instructions which will explain how to save and complete the installation [HOW TO] Have-Disk method for XP, Driver install instructions with pictures

In a very condensed summary, this inolves:

  • Click the "Drivers" link
  • Select "WinXP"
  • Download the latest .exe in the version column
  • Save the version_number.exe file
  • Download the corresponding .inf file
  • Save the nv4_disp.inf file.
  • The detailed driver installation instructions which will explain how to complete the installation including replacing the .inf file [HOW TO] Have-Disk method for XP, Driver install instructions with pictures

After successful completion, you should now be able to use TriDef Visualizer for Google Earth on your Sharp RD3D.
