Troubleshooting

There was a problem setting up my display. The grey rectangle on the final screen looked smooth. What should I do?

The smooth rectangle indicates that your PC is correctly connected to your 3D display. Therefore, possible causes of the problem are:

For a Samsung 3-D DLP(R) HDTV:

  • Your TV is not in 3-D mode. Please press the 3D button on your remote control and ensure that "3D Game : ON-STD GLS" is displayed.
  • Your 3-D shutter glasses are not turned on or their batteries need replacing.
  • The emitter for your 3-D glasses is not plugged in correctly, not pointing towards the glasses, or you are too far from the emitter.
  • There may be interference form other sources such as fluorescent lights.

There was a problem setting up my display. The grey rectangle on the final screen looked patterned. What should I do?

Possible causes of this problem are:

For all 3-D displays which require a specific resolution:

  • Your PC is not set to the correct resolution. Please change your display resolution to that required by your 3-D display (eg, 1920x1080 or 1280x720 for Samsung 3-D DLP(R) HDTV) by following these instructions and run TriDef Display Setup again.
  • Your PC is set to the correct resolution, but the graphics card is scaling the desktop. For NVIDIA cards, newer drivers have a "Resize HDTV Desktop" option (under "Video & Television"). Please ensure that this is turned off by selecting "Do not resize my desktop". This option is only visible in Advanced mode (select View->Advanced). If this does not solve the problem then consult your graphics card driver documentation to ensure that all card and display scaling options are turned off.

For a Samsung 3-D DLP(R) HDTV:

  • Your TV is not in 3-D mode. Please press the 3-D button on your remote control and ensure that "3D Game : ON-STD GLS" is displayed.

My 3-D shutter glasses are flickering, how do I fix this problem?

There are a number of reasons why flickering may be observed when wearing 3-D shutter glasses:

  1. The batteries in the glasses need replacing: this form of flickering is generally intermittent as the batteries near the end of their useful life.
  2. The glasses are being used on the edge of, or outside of the viewing zone covered by the IR emitter: this can be diagnosed by simply moving closer to the emitter
  3. The flickering is due interference form other sources such as fluorescent lights.

I cannot hear audio when using TriDef Media Player or the screen is black when playing DVDs?

If you cannot hear audio (or the screen is black), please ensure you have a supported DVD Decoder installed.

Please note that sometimes conflicts between codecs can cause issues. You may need to uninstall your codecs to find out which ones have conflicts, but please note that this may cause playback issues with other media players or applications you have installed on your system. Please backup your PC before making any changes.

I see a double image when looking at 3-D content, what's wrong?

Depending on the type of 3-D display, possible causes of this problem are:

  • Your PC is not set to the correct resolution. Consult your display's manual for the required resolution, or use the TriDef Control Panel's "Set Resolution" button.
  • The PC is not correctly connected to the 3-D display. Ensure that the correct ports are used on the display/TV, and that a DVI or HDMI cable is used instead of VGA wherever possible.
  • Your graphics card or display is scaling the video signal. Consult your graphics card driver documentation to ensure that all card and display scaling options are turned off.

For displays requiring 3-D shutter glasses:

  • Your 3-D shutter glasses are not turned on or their batteries need replacing.
  • The emitter for your 3-D glasses is not plugged in correctly, not pointing towards the glasses, or you are too far from the emitter.
  • There may be interference form other sources such as fluorescent lights.

For a Samsung 3-D DLP(R) HDTV:

  • Your TV is not in 3-D mode. Please press the 3D button on your remote control and ensure that "3D Game : ON-STD GLS" is displayed.

For a Sharp AL3D/RD3D laptop or LCD display:

  • Your display is not in 3-D mode. Please press the 3D button on your laptop or display.

For displays requiring polarised (not shutter) glasses:

  • You may have the incorrect type of polarised glasses. There are 2 major types of polarised 3-D glasses. Please consult your display's manual, or ask your display manufacturer which type of glasses are required.

For glasses-free displays:

  • You are not positioned in the optimal location for viewing 3-D. Try moving slightly to the left or right (or up/down). Please consult your display's manual, or ask your display manufacturer for more information.

My desktop is being clipped at the edges, how can I fix this problem?

Some displays may have an "overscan" problem, which leads to the video signal from the PC being cropped at the top and/or sides. This can be an issue for both 2-D and 3-D displays.

It may be possible to work around this problem by adjusting the display driver's overscan setting (if available). Please note that adjusting some overscan settings (eg, NVIDIA's "Resize HDTV Desktop" setting) may cause the 3D effect to be lost.

Alternatively, try incrementally reducing the desktop resolution (eg, try 1776x1000 instead of 1920x1080) until the cropping disappears. If the display driver does not support these non-standard resolutions, then a third party tool such as powerstrip may be used to add them.

Can I use TriDef software on a PC with NVIDIA Stereo Drivers installed?

Yes, however you can only use one at a time.

TriDef applications will temporarily disable the NVIDIA stereo drivers while in operation.

In some cases the NVIDIA stereo drivers cannot be disabled, so you will need to manually diable them as specified below.

NVIDIA Stereo drivers are enabled and disabled using the NVIDIA settings (Start -> Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Graphics Card Tab -> Stereo Properties -> Stereo Enable Mode (Enabled, Enabled by Hot Key, Disabled)).

To view TriDef 3-D games, you need to launch the game from TriDef Launchpad.

To enable/disable TriDef Visualizer applications (such as Google Earth), use Start -> All Programs -> DDD -> Utilities -> TriDef Control Panel -> Visualizer Tab -> On Startup (Do not change 3D mode, Switch to 3D mode, Do not load Visualizer driver).

Why does the MPV/MPA decoder installation fail?

This is a known problem under Windows Vista/Windows 7. Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Download codecs/decoders onto your hard drive (or a disk if your TV PC is not connected to the internet; transfer the files to the TV PC).
  2. Unzip/extract the packages to a folder where you can find them, e.g "C:\DVD-Decoders". Use the files from Release folder if you're running Windows 9x/Me or Release Unicode if you're running Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7.
  3. Click the Windows Start button. In the area just below "All Programs", type "cmd". A small icon will appear under "Programs". Right-click and select the "Run as Administrator" option. If prompted by User Access Control, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?", press "Yes".
  4. When the "Administrator: C:\Windows\system32" program appears, change directory to the folder you created, e.g "cd C:\DVD-Decoders"
  5. Type "regsvr32 Mpeg2DecFilter.ax"
  6. A dialog should appear: "DLLRegisterServer in Mpeg2DecFilter.ax succeeded".
  7. Type "regsvr32 MpaDecFilter.ax"
  8. A dialog should appear: "DLLRegisterServer in MpaDecFilter.ax succeeded"
  9. You should then be able to play DVDs.
