TriDef Photo Viewer
Terminology
TriDef Photos TriDef Depth based v Multi-view TriDef Photos
There are two types of TriDef Photo files: Depth based and Multi-view.
Both types of TriDef Photo can be viewed in either 2-D or 3-D using one of the TriDef Photo viewing tools:
-
TriDef Photo Viewer
-
TriDef PowerPoint Plug-in
Multi-View TriDef Photos
Multi-view TriDef Photos contain a number of different views of the same scene. Each view is a 2-D image, but when combined into a single TriDef Photo file, the result is 3-D. Most 3-D graphics programs include an option to output multiple views of a scene, based on each frame in a ceamera path. Use TriDef Photo Builder to create a Multi-view TriDef Photo from these individual views.
Depth based TriDef Photos
Contain a 2-D Source image and a Depth map, and are produced by:
-
Using TriDef Photo Transformer to convert a 2-D image into a Depth based TriDef Photo
-
Using TriDef Photo Builder to combine separate 2-D Source and Depth map files into a Depth based TriDef Photo
2-D compatible 3-D JPEG/PNG/BMP
A 2-D compatible 3-D JPEG/PNG/BMP file is an image file which contains both the original 2-D source image and a Depth Map. This means that the image can be viewed in 2-D by any program which can normally view these file types, but it can also be viewed in 3-D by TriDef Photo viewing programs such as TriDef Photo Viewer and the TriDef PowerPoint Plug-in. These files can be viewed in 2-D or 3-D, on any supported 3-D Display, with any 3-D Settings.
When TriDef Photo Viewer and TriDef PowerPoint Help topics refer to 'Photos', this includes 2-D compatible 3-D files.
A 2-D compatible 3-D image file is different from a 3-D Image file because a 3-D Image file can only be viewed in 3-D.
Missing files
TriDef Slideshow files do not contain the Photos themselves, only the relative links to the Photo files.
If you move either the TriDef Slideshow file, or the Photo files, the links are broken.
If you open an affected Slideshow file you will be given the opportunity to either ignore the broken links, or search for them right then.
Broken links appear in Photo Viewer in red, with a missing image icon.
You can fix the broken link by double-clicking the red Photo name and searching for the missing file.
Multi-view TriDef Photos
Contain a number of different views of the same scene. Each view is a 2-D image, but when combined into a single TriDef Photo file, the result is 3-D. Most 3-D graphics programs include an option to output multiple views of a scene, based on each frame in a camera path. Use TriDef Photo Builder to create a Multi-view TriDef Photo from these individual views.
Special Note:
Multi-view TriDef Photos can be viewed using any of the supported 3-D Displays. However, you cannot adjust their 3-D Scene Depth or 3-D Focal Point.
The same applies for any 2-D compatible 3-D file or TriDef 3-D Image created with multiple views.
Scaling
Two scaling options are saved when TriDef Photos are created: The Custom Scaling option and the scaling settings themselves. Refer to Photo Properties for more information about these.
When you choose new Custom Scaling options in TriDef Photo viewing applications, these are not saved with the individual TriDef Photo files, but in the TriDef Slideshow or TriDef Presentation the Photo is part of.
3-D Settings
All TriDef Photos have original 3-D Focal Point and 3-D Scene Depth settings saved with them. In TriDef Photo viewing applications you can choose Custom 3-D Settings for Depth based TriDef Photos, but these settings are fixed for Multi-view TriDef Photos.
When you choose Custom 3-D Settings in TriDef Photo viewing applications, these are not saved with the individual TriDef Photo files, but in the TriDef Slideshow or TriDef Presentation the Photo is part of.

This information is added in Photo Transformer or TriDef Photo Builde via File > Properties.
TriDef Photo Info can be viewed in TriDef Photo Viewer (Click the "I" button under the 2-D preview) or the TriDef PowerPoint Plug-in (TriDef > 3-D Slide Properties)
3-D Displays
All TriDef Photos can be viewed on any 3-D Display that you are licensed to use.
Photo Viewer Limitations
TriDef Photo files created using TriDef Photo Builder cannot be edited in TriDef Photo Transformer.
You cannot change the 3-D Settings of a Multi-view TriDef Photo.
Multi-view TriDef Photos can only be viewed by pre-V1.5 versions of TriDef Photo Viewer and TriDef PowerPoint Plug-in if a Depth Map is included when they are created.
Stereo Multi-view TriDef Photos can only be viewed successfully on certain types of 3-D Display.
TriDef 3-D Image
A TriDef 3-D Image (PNG/BMP) contains a 3-D image ready for viewing on a specific 3-D Display, plus the source files required to regenerate the 3-D image for a different 3-D Display or simply to alter the 3-D Settings. These source files can be 2-D Source + Depth, or multiple views.
This file can be viewed as 3-D even if you do not have any TriDef Photo viewing software, as long as that system includes the specific 3-D Display the file was created for. You can use any graphics viewing program that can view BMP or PNG files in Full Screen mode.
Alternatively, if you do have TriDef Photo viewing software such as TriDef Photo Viewer, or the TriDef PowerPoint Plug-in, you can view this file as you would a TriDef Photo, and change the 3-D Settings or 3-D Display as required. Note that you cannot change the 3-D Settings of a TriDef 3-D Image if it was built with multiple views.
TriDef 3-D image can be exported from TriDef Photo Transformer or TriDef Photo Builder.
TriDef Slideshow Files
A TriDef Slideshow is a sequence of Photos (TriDef Photo files,2-D compatible 3-D JPEG/PNG/BMP files or TriDef 3-D image). This sequence is created in and played through TriDef Photo Viewer. A Slideshow file contains relative links to Photo files, so if these are moved or renamed, they will not appear in the Slideshow. If you delete a Photo from a Slideshow, this does not affect the Photo file itself.
TriDef Slideshow options include:
Looping. At the end of the Slideshow the presentation returns to the first image.
Choice of Auto/Manual advance. Either direct the pace of the Slideshow manually by clicking to advance, or set it to run by itself at the selected pace. Which ever method you use, make sure that the viewer has at least a 3 seconds to view the Photo, as it can take some people several seconds to perceive the 3-D effect.
3-D Settings. You can adjust the Custom 3-D Scene Depth and 3-D Focal Point of each Photo in your Slideshow. In addition, you can set 3-D Scene Depth and 3-D Focal Point Modifiers to adjust all Photos in the Slideshow at once.
Scaling options. Choose whether to scale, crop or pad with black to make Photos fill the screen. See Slideshow Properties for more information.
You can insert a TriDef Slideshow into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation in one of two ways:
Working with 3-D Settings: Original, Custom or Modifier
Every Depth based TriDef Photo is created with its own original 3-D Scene Depth and 3-D Focal Point, added in TriDef Photo Transformer or TriDef Photo Builder.
These original settings can be adjusted or replaced when viewed by other TriDef applications.
You can not adjust the 3-D Settings of Multi-view TriDef Photos (or other types of Multi-view).
Custom 3-D Settings in the viewing application replace the original settings in the TriDef Photo file with new specific values as demonstrated above. Custom 3-D Settings are set for each individual TriDef Photo.
3-D Settings Modifiers in the viewing application are optional and adjust the original settings in the TriDef Photo file. The same Modifiers affect all TriDef Photos in a Slideshow at once or all TriDef Photos in a TriDef PowerPoint Presentation at once.
