In a Linear Ramp, depth values vary from one selected depth value to the next in an even gradient. Use Linear Ramps for flat surfaces like walls and tables.

Like all Depth Data Ramps, the Linear Ramp has to be applied to existing data.

  1. Paint Depth Data of any value over the part of the image you want to apply the ramp to.

  2. Use one of the Selection tools to select the Depth Data in this part of the image.

Tip: For regular shapes with straight edges (like walls and tables), use the Poly Select Tool Polygon selection tool.

  3. Select the Linear Ramp Tool Linear Ramp Tool.

  4. Select the two depth values (Depth1 (red, left) and Depth2 (green, right)) to use for the start and end of this ramp.

Tip: A % symbol above the Depth Picker indicates that the Percent scale is selected. No % symbol means the Value scale is selected.

Tip: To quickly sample two depth values already on the Drawing window or the Depth window, press and hold the Alt key to select the Eyedropper Tool Eyedropper tool, then click and drag from one value to the next. Release the Alt key.

  5. Click and drag the Linear Ramp Tool Linear Ramp Tool in a line across the selection.

Tip: In most cases a horizontal or vertical line will be most appropriate. You can get different effects by varying the angle of the line, its length or the start and end points.

Tip: If you do not like the effect you can simply draw another line immediately.
