Depth Data Addition
Add Depth Data by lightly 'painting' the objects in the image with white, black and various shades of gray to indicate the objects which are closest to the viewer (white) and those which are furthest away (black). [Example]
Before starting, examine the image to determine the areas of foreground, middleground and background, and see how much of the image can be Depth Mapped by adding a Background Ramp. Also look for regular shapes, such as flat receding planes (e.g. floors and table tops), curved surfaces (e.g. tree trunks) and lumps or hollows which would benefit from a Depth Data Ramp.
You have a choice of Drawing Tools available in the Toolbar:

-
Make sure you have set up your Background Ramp, even if you are leaving it flat.
-
Use the Depth Picker to select a Depth Data (gray) value. The 'Current Depth' swatch changes to reflect your selection using either method:
-
Type a number in the text box above the Depth Picker. If there is a % symbol above the box, make it a value between 0 and 100. If there is no symbol, use a gray scale value of between 0 and 255. [More Information]
-
Click on the Depth Picker itself to select a specific shade of gray.
-
Using the mouse, click or drag to 'paint' the parts of the image at that depth. Roughly outline the objects with their relevant depth then spot in any large areas within the outline [Example].
-
Repeat with other shades of gray to 'paint' the various middleground areas. Depending on the image and your display, you may need as few as 3 or as many as 10 shades of gray to indicate the different areas of depth.
-
If your Depth Map is 'bleeding' outside your objects, use Transparent Points to create a barrier.
