TriDef DVD Player

Terminology

2-D DVDs

Any commercial 2-D DVD you can already play on your computer with InterVideo WinDVD can be viewed in 3-D with TriDef Playtime technology and any TriDef enabled 3-D Display.

Maximise the 3-D impact with the 3-D Settings 3-D Scene Depth and 3-D Focal Point.

When you play a 2-D DVD, set the Input to 2-D. TriDef DVD Player will remember this setting for you.

3Di DVDs (L+R and R+L)

3Di ('3D interlaced') DVDs include two views of a movie, as seen from different angles. Some 3Di DVDs put the 'Left' view first and some put the 'Right' view first.

3Di DVDs will only produce effective 3-D on single-viewer 3-D Displays such as Sharp 3-D Laptops and Dimension Technologies Virtual Window 3D Displays. Such media will also work well with anaglyph and interlaced (shutter glass) views.

Maximise the 3-D impact of 3Di DVDs using the 3-D Settings 3-D Focal Point Modifier.

When you play a 3Di DVD, set the Input to either L+R or R+L. TriDef DVD Player will remember this setting for you.

Note: 3Di DVDs only produce effective 3-D on single-viewer TriDef enabled 3-D Displays.

3-D Settings: 3-D Focal Point

3D Focal Point Slider

The 3-D Focal Point is a 3-D Setting. 3-D Focal Point is set by choosing a depth value between the Background Background and the Foreground Foreground of the image.

2-D DVDs

When you use 3-D Focal Point with a 2-D DVD, you can pick a specific point in the image to sit at screen level. This means that 3-D Focal Point can also be viewed as the percentage of the image that seems to be behind the screen.

3Di DVDs

When you use 3-D Focal Point with a 3Di DVD, it becomes a 3-D Focal Point Modifier. Every 3Di DVD has a default amount of separation between the different views of the image. This single setting determines both 3-D Scene Depth and 3-D Focal Point. When you apply a 3-D Focal Point Modifier it moves the image either closer to or further away from the viewer. The exact effect will be different for every 3Di DVD.

For more information, see the 3-D Focal Point section on the common terminology page.

3-D Settings: 3-D Scene Depth

3D Scene Depth Slider

The 3-D Scene Depth is a 3-D Setting for 2-D DVDs only. 3-D Scene Depth is the amount of space between the objects in the Foreground and the Background of an image. You can Compress 'Compress' or Expand 'Expand' 3-D Scene Depth. When you Compress, you squeeze the objects in the image flat and move them closer together. When you Expand, you stretch the objects and move them further apart.

For more information, see the 3-D Scene Depth section on the common terminology page.

Field order - (L+R) + (R+L).

3Di DVDs contain left and right views of a movie. These views are also called 'fields'. Some 3Di DVDs put the 'Left' view first (L+R) and some put the 'Right' view first (R+L). This is called 'field order'.

TriDef Playtime Technology

TriDef Playtime technology converts your favorite 2-D DVDs into full screen, full frame rate, stereoscopic 3-D on any TriDef enabled 3-D Display. This technology is so flexible you can even adjust the 3-D effect for maximum 3-D impact.

What type of DVD do I have?

If you are not sure what type of DVD you have, set the Input to first 2-D and then L+R and compare the results:

  • A 2-D DVD will only work in 3-D if you choose '2-D Input'
  • A 3Di DVD may produce some 3-D on any Input setting, but will look much better if you choose either L+R or R+L
